• Yes, it would work just fine. My TV was a Toshiba Fire TV, and the remote I bought was the Insignia., I placed the batteries inside the remote, and it works like a charm, without any set up.

• You do have to go through setup but you do not need the old remote. Enough functions on the new remote will work to allow you to access the menu and do what you need to do for setup.
