Yes they will work with 16 awg wire

Product description says "Compatible with most speaker wire up to 14 AWG". 16 AWG is the next size smaller in diameter from 14 AWG; therefore, 16 AWG will work. Remember, as the AWG number gets smaller, the cables get larger. Having said that, they are perfect with 14 AWG which is what I used. Anything larger in diameter, such as 12 AWG, is going to be too big.
