“how tall are the side shelves? I have a 9" modem that needs to be housed...and can the modem sit behind closed doors or does it need open airflow? Is there a unit available to see and touch in stores? I'd buy it instore with assembly purchase.”

Each of the 6 shelf spaces are 17 in Deep x 20 in Wide x 9 in High. As for the ventilation, I have not had any issues.
