The antenna can pick up electrical static that can interfere with the reception. I do not know how far away it would need to be but you could plug it in and see how the signal is. I put mine up as high as possible for best reception. Put above my kitchen cabinets. You could even hide it inside a cabinet as long as there is not alot of metal around it to block the signal.

Because high power appliances emit electrical noise that might cause interference with the TV signals. Try to install the antenna as high as possible close to a window.
