• No, but the tone is generally loud enough to notice even without the earbud in, at least in relatively normal environments. Also, does not prevent the phone from ringing on its own.

• Yes. It does that well while it's working. That's one of the reasons I'm on my 6th set. I love them for the two weeks to 2 months they work after they're new.
