Not exactly sure what you're asking. But I've placed the docking station on a wall so that there's at least 18" of blank wall on either side and 4' feet of empty floor space in front. I don't think you have to have that much room in front. But I want to be sure it will be able to identify its home base easily. My house is about 1800 square feet and the Roomba has no problem cleaning it in one charging. Hope this helps.
