I purchased a Surface Laptop3 and am using the USB TYPE-C MULTI-ADAPTER HDMI/ETHERNET to connect my laptop to a universal docking station and to an older USB drive. Its working perfectly - the docking station connects me to a 2nd monitor, mouse and keyboard. I am also able to open various document files. I don't see why it wouldn't work with a Surface Pro 6.

Unfortunately, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 does not have a USB-C port. However, I recommend that you consider looking at the UltraDrive Mini Dock USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort Docking Station (JDD320) or USB 3.0 Mini Docking Station (JUD380).
