• I used it for exactly this purpose. Connected laptop USB type-C port to cable modem/router Ethernet port. Gets max internet connection speed.

• Yes this will work. Brought one recently when I had to buy a new computer and it did not have a port either. this works well if you have the correct plug "C" port on the computer.
