We are looking for something to connect to our router via cat 5/6 cable. The new laptop does not have cat port......is this what you need to be able to do this in addition to adding a couple of usb ports??? null

Yes, The JCA374 can be used to allow the addition of an Ethernet (CAT) port to your computer.

I used it for exactly this purpose. Connected laptop USB type-C port to cable modem/router Ethernet port. Gets max internet connection speed.

Yes this will work. Brought one recently when I had to buy a new computer and it did not have a port either. this works well if you have the correct plug "C" port on the computer.
