It does alert for calls, messages and alerts, unless you are playing music. Then mine will lower the volume of the music for a second or two to alert me. If its a call, then it cuts the music and rings.

I do not have this problem. Check the settings on your particular phone device. My phone still rings or vibrates

There is no vibration in the headset but I do get audible notification through the headset when a call is received.
