I have used my speaker this way with bluetooth. It allows me to turn volume up and down from the speaker or the tv. The TV has to be connected by bluetooth.

Please make sure to select the speaker as the audio output on your TV settings. Please note that using a Bluetooth connection may cause audio-video delays as this speaker doesn't have an APTX HD Low Latency codec.
