No, You can use a amp that has the wattage to handle your subs. Or and Mono block amp, or my favorite amp to use or 2channel amps. I have a kicker 1200 watt mono block on my 2 kicker comp R. And I also just got a 2 channel Audio Pipe amp 2200 watt and I use that now. But no you don't have to get an 4-ohm amp
