“I am replacing a microwave that was in a "cubby". It was not convection and does not have a vent that goes to the outside. Will that be ok for this microwave?”

klin, the Microwave is designed to be installed over the Range. You would need to follow all location requirements. This information can be found on pages 2-3 of the Installation Instructions: https://www.kitchenaid.com/content/dam/global/documents/201408/installation-instructions-W10724870-RevA.pdf .
