I am having the same problem.  I think we should start a Class Action lawsuit against KitchenAid.  It is clearly a manufacturing issue and they are hoping we will go away.

Anyone else interested in filing a suit against KitchenAid as a Class?

I’m having the same issue. My unit is 1 year old. The repair tech at first agreed with me after peeling the “film” away and seeing the color difference. Film peels away, it doesn’t chip off or crack like film.

But after going back to the office and speaking with them he said -“it’s just the original plastic”-

This is a manufacturers defect that KitchenAid doesn’t want to fix or pay for. Own up to your mistakes, fix it & move on KitchenAid.

I want the door replaced an a guarantee from KitchenAid that this issue will not happen again in a year from now.

I am also having the same issue. This dishwasher is maybe a year and a half old. At first I thought it was left over plastic, but like others have said, it is not. I even have little rust spots on mine and I think it has to do with where the heat escapes from the drying cycle. Super disappointed.

I have the exact same issue wtih my model KDTM604KPS0. It looks just like the pictures previously shown. Did anyone get Kitchenaid to do something about this? It really is an unacceptable manufacturing flaw.

It is a plastic wrap that is to protect unit from fingerprints. Mine is peeling as well. I had a battle with Kitchenaid and they refuse to do anything. Disgusting. When the plastic was applied they failed to wrap it around bottom lip so when you clean front over time your rag catches the edge and slowly lift it. What a joke that they do not stand behind product and fix the problem. Time for everyone to write bad reviews.

I’m having the exact issue… and Kitchenaid pretends they don’t know what I’m talking about… bottom front of new KA dishwasher door appears to have peeling plastic at bottom and no it’s not the thin shipping protective seal… it goes right along with the new KA oven that took 5 repair visits and one year to get working! Loving the foil “ paper” on the oven knobs too… in total junk. Guess what nobody cares once it’s purchased by you, not KA nor BB

I too have the same problem. We’ve had this dishwasher for 6.5 months. Just noticed it now and thought I was losing my mind cause I know for a fact I took off all the shipping plastic off. I peeled a bit off the bottom and saw it was discolored underneath and knew something wasn’t right. Came here and saw this.

I’m having the same issue. Peeling, brittle plastic-like coating on the bottom of the dishwasher door. Rust is showing where the coating peels off. Will be contacting kitchen aid about this, but it doesn’t sound like anyone here has had success doing so. We’ve had this dishwasher less than a year.

So glad to have found this thread as I am having the same issue…my KA dishwasher is now completely rusted on the bottom after less than two years of use! The peeling plastic came first and now the rust. Very frustrating and NO help from KA.

Do not buy this product. 
This is 3 years of use in a normal environnement. I know it looks like dirt but i garrantee you it's rust. 
Called customer service and they act like they don't know about it and there's nothing they can do instead of changing the door at my expense. Disguting knowing stainless should last 30+ years with no problem.

My 6 months old DW door started rusting underneath the finger print protective coat, where the control panel and the stainless wrap around to the front.

This is definitely NOT a cosmetic issue and I would like to join in on the lawsuit against KA.
We all need to unite and stop letting KA blaming us for there bad products.

Having the same dishwasher shield peel issue about a year and a half after purchase. Kitchenaid called this a cosmetic issue and says those are only covered for 30 days.
