“My question is: Is it best to shut down the Lenovo 10" Smart Display when not in use by unplugging it from the wall? All it seems to do is "dim a little" when not in use.”

There’s no physically on/off button, nor a software on/off feature. It’s meant to be an appliance-like device which is designed to be always on, always available in the home. If you do want to turn it on/off you can unplug/replug in the unit. You can turn the display off by just saying " hey Google , turn off the display. When not in use the Smart Display will go to sleep ( but still hear your voice commands) and use very little power.
