Excellent display, unique design, good speakers

This first generation smart display is quite well done overall. Just the way it looks with its bamboo, curved back makes it look nice on your countertop. Rather than a metal box, it has an artsy, contemporary look. Functionally, it hits all the marks as a google assistant. Having the screen enhances all of the basic functions you are used to with a Google Home device. I only played with the recipe feature a little but it works as advertised allowing you to go step by step through directions with your voice. I love being able to have my music videos playing while I am preparing food in the kitchen. Right now, it's limited in its built-in video services and I hope they will attract more partners (listen up Netflix and Hulu). You can chromecast some services to it (no Netflix as of this review). Forget about Amazon Prime. You can't chromecast Amazon Prime in general, let alone getting it native on this smart display until Amazon and Google resolve their spat. I mean - Amazon won't even sell Google Assistant products directly. For hue lighting, you get voice control followed by onscreen sliders and touch controls for dimming and colors. Very handy. Inquiries about facts are coupled with visual aids. For example, ask about a country and you get photos of that country. My main complaint that keeps it from 5-star is that it reveals my reminder list to everyone in my household no matter who made the last request. For example, if my husband asks it something, it will respond appropriately. Then, after its timeout period, it will return to a screen with the weather and MY reminders for a few minutes before finally settling back into its default photo frame function. I don't want my reminders there for everyone to see. Thankfully, it seems that's all it does. My calendar remains private and only visible when I call upon it with my voice. That's not a deal breaker though. I still find it a great addition to my kitchen and look forward to it growing and expanding with new services and tweaks to its interface. I give it a thumbs up!

      A needed assistant

Nicely packaged, similar to an Apple product in its minimalistic design. I really like the bamboo finish, only available on the 10 inch model. Video call requires the unit to be placed in the portrait orientation. Screen resolution is superb. Sound is not loud but clear and clean. It can be the best alarm clock you own. Setup took between 10 and 15 minutes due to extra time used to setup my pay method, even that was easy. All devices connected without difficulty, first time. I gave it a 4 star rating and not a 5 star rating due to the hope that I could use the device to make voice calls via wifi and not on my mobile voice plan. My mother lives in an area where the phone lines are not data capable. The canyon she lives in is remote and mobile service is unable to cover her residence. The Lenovo Assistant insists on making a video call and will not revert to a voice call. I can connect via bluetooth to call but that uses my mobile voice plan. In any case my 1st interactive assistant is of the finest pedigree. It really deserves 5 stars.

I was hesitant to get a "smart home" product due to the concerns around privacy, but thought, what the heck and did it. I am glad that I did! This thing is beautiful!! Many of our friends have competing products that look out of place wherever you try to hide them, and this really looks like it was designed to fit in any room. The design is beautiful, and I really like the wood back as it makes the device seem more thought out, and fitting to be in a room. The display is amazing! Video looks great and sounds better than I expected! The kids use it constantly, and my wife finds that she now uses it all the time as well. We have made this our "Family Hub" and it works well for schedules, reminders, notes, and photos. Since we already had Google Duo set up on everyone phones, video chat was a snap. We also took a few moments and walked the grandparents through it so we can talk to them at any time. I am so pleased with this, I think im going to get the smaller version to use as a bedside for myself. This also works well with our already installed Nest system (heaters, smoke detectors) and we are about to install cameras and a front doorbell camera, so very excited to use this product for that as well. I am very satisfied with build quality and overall performance, my only beef would be that portrait mode only works with Duo, and I would like it to work with every app...so hopefully this will support on further updated. Great work Lenovo to finally making a home assistant that feels like it actually belongs in a home!!

Need To Implement Some Basic Features

We own this device and the Echo Show and prefer the promise of the Google Smart Display. While the GSD is better looking, has the superior Google Assistant, is useful for recipes, allows for on-screen interaction to control devices, acts as a Chromecast and can play YouTube videos, it comes up short in these respects: - The Echo Show is louder than the Lenovo Smart Display. The ugly JBL unit promises to change that and I'm hopeful that Sony and Google will offer better. - The GSD does not display lyrics of music. - The GSD cannot join a group. - The GSD cannot receive calls like the Echo system with the Connect device. - In the Ambient Photos mode it is not possible to view a slideshow of photo from this date in history. - GSD's will not display an all day event from your calendar. - Local news is much more limited than the Echo's offerings. - The GSD has no Echo-type "drop in" feature. Google may have legitimate reasons for not implementing these abilities or may simply be late to the game. In our family, we have come to view the Google Smart Display as more of an entertainment device and the Echo Show as a more practical device.

Thank you for this valuable feedback, we are happy to address a few of your points.
        1. The Lenovo Smart Display does not yet support speaker grouping or multi-room audio but this capability will be added to all Lenovo Smart Displays in an upcoming update before the end of this year.
        2. Lenovo Smart Display can receive both voice and video calls via the Google Duo application, simply say "Hey Google, video call home" to your Google Assistant on your phone, to call your Google-account linked Lenovo Smart Display.
        3. The Lenovo Smart Display does support a native voice-first experience of Google Photo. For Ambient Mode, you can decide to display albums from your linked Google Account using the Google Home app and its settings menu.
        4. The Lenovo Smart Display cannot allow for drop-in features because per design we have considered user-feedback on the need for a privacy camera. You can call from one Lenovo Smart Display to another Smart Display, but the TrueBlock Privacy Shutter would render a "drop in" type of feature cumbersome at best.
We hope you can give another look at the Lenovo Smart Display considering these points.
5.-The Lenovo Smart Display comes with a 2" 10W full-range speaker and 2 passive tweeters, which product deep lows, crystal clear middles and true-fidelity highs. Many independent reviews consider the Lenovo Smart Display sound to be superior to Echo Show. lenovo

      Improvement to standard Google Assistant

I've totally bought into the Google tech ecosystem. I have 7 various Google Assistants prior to this purchase. I already use Google calendar, Photos, YouTube, YouTube TV, music, and Google play for movies. I have smart home controls and Chromecast on my Tvs. And this is a improvement on my Google home experience. I use it as a digital picture frame when it's idle. It also detects if no one is around and sleeps the screen so it's not always displaying something. Telling Google to adjust my HVAC displays on the touch screen additional controls for the one I'm adjusting (Dual climate controls). I can ask for my news briefing when I wake up and it displays video of that mornings news. I can tell it to tune to TV channels, or show on demand content with my YouTube TV account so it's like a mini TV! There's a lot I can go on about but I'll just say I love it for my home and expect it to only get better with updates. Probably will buy more and eventually switch to smart displays over the regular Google Homes.

Love this!!!!! Works GREAT in the kitchen!

I bought both the 10" display and the 8" display. The 10" is in the kitchen and the 8" in the bedroom. The 10" in the kitchen works perfectly for recipes and watching shows while cooking. The routines are SUPER USEFUL in the morning when I'm sitting having a cup of coffee and not as distracting as having a TV on. We love the photos that rotate through when it's waiting for instructions as they bring back memories and spur conversation. The ability to simply ask a question and get a visible answer is significantly more satisfying that my screenless Google Home. The speakers are just the right size for the kitchen but clearly not as powerful as our Sonos or others (also not meant to replace these). We love the video calling!!! As a Fandroid and not a big "Face time" user, the Duo app works great and it';s nice to see the kid's faces when talking to them. I'm sending an 8" to both set of grandparents to make time more meaningful. All around, love these device and can't wait for Lenovo to just keep making these better and better.

      Network problem....

At first, I didn't know how I would like this device... though I knew I wanted it. I'm a big fan of Google Assistant and I love digital picture frames. That's pretty much all I use it for at this point. Albums sync with the Google Home app....its wonderful! If you're using it in a bedroom the light sensor knows enough to turn the photos off once the room is dark....works like a charm. Screen is bright and vibrant and the speaker is loud enough for basic Google assistant questions and maybe a podcast hear and there. My main gripe is with the inconsistency of the network connection. This may be able to get fixed with software updates but it happens at least 2-3 times a week. I'll come home and the screen will be blank and just say "Network Problem". I have a strong network. You have to unplug and reboot every time. Annoying. If they bring YouTubeTV to the device I would be SO HAPPY!

YouTubeTV is supported with an active subscription. There are a few things that could be causing your Smart Display to disconnect from your WiFi network. Here are a few things to try to resolve your problem: We would recommend that you make sure that your modem and router and working correctly by trying another WiFi device. If that works you know the WiFi system is working correctly. Try unplugging your modem and router (unplug them and then plug back in one minute.) If there are multiple devices on your WiFi network at the same time, this can cause disconnection too. If this still does not work, please contact our customer support @ 877-453-6686.. lenovo

was really excited to get my hands on the 10" display. good microphone pick up, sound is not as great as the google home i have with medium bass. thats what expected with a small speaker. Display is awesome, very responsive...the most important thing that made me kinda disappointed with this device is the continious conversation. I played with all the settings to try to find it and turn it on, until i gave up and went online and found out that its not supported....THATS HUGE! i was glad to get away from saying "Hey Google" when it made that major update a few months ago but now that i have this display, im back to where im at before of saying the key word and i hate it....that is important to me. Right now, its 50/50 for me,.. I will still play with it today and see if i can decide to keep it or return it back. If that feature is there, definitely 100% that ill keep it...and will be a five star, but for now its hangin in the air.
