Yes this would be perfect for such. I use mine for daily conference calls and it has wonderful webcam quality, picture quality, and sound quality. It connects to WiFi and has a fast processor. You may have to help her take it out of “S” mode which was designed with students in mind for security in order to add video-chatting programs. You can find that by Searching for “Disable S Mode” on Google.
