If you do, you run the risk of voiding the warranty, unless you do it after warranty expires. Only do it if you or a friend really know hardware. I purchased the 512 because I also use 256 flash drives and also have a 1tb ssd portable drive and don't need to keep that much data on the laptop. I have multiple bu's and most of the bulk is photos (am semi-pro)
