Good, sure. It'd type documents, allow them to watch videos and surf the Internet, and even play games. Is it the best fit? Depends on the student. The laptop weighs 6.5+ pounds, so it'll be a behemoth to have to carry if commuting or to constantly carry across Campus. I'd only recommend this if the student will be minimizing the distance they have to carry the laptop. (Also I'm sure the battery will last between 4-6 hours)

Yes, depending on the curriculum, this is a great college computer. Although, if you are an engineering student or graphics design student, you should check with your school for minimum/recommended requirements to run programs specific to engineering or graphic design programs.
