The Best Buy delivery people and installers hooked up the water immediately and plugged it in right away. Note - as per the instructions, you will want to run a large quantity of water and throw it away or water plants with it, as it will be cloudy. Do the same with the ice cubes. As soon as they connected it, I was putting things in both the fridge and freezer. I knew the freezer items were already frozen, and nothing melted or thawed by the time it got cold. Then you would have to wait at least 24 hours before plugging it in. Refrigerators should never be transported in any position other than upright, but if it has been necessary to transport the refrigerator on its side, it should stand upright for an equal amount of time as it was on its side before plugging it in. If it was on its side for more than a day, leave standing for 24 hours before running it...^IFV
