It is mechanical in that you need to press your cup into the dispense lever for both ice and water, but is done with one hand. Very easy to operate and make the change - the switch between ice and water and chopped ice is electronic and not mechanical.

It’s really easy to use but, It would be hard to fill with one hand unless you put the container down to select or the selector is already set to your preference, ice or water. To operate, either water or ice (cubes or crushed) is selected with a button and then the drinking glass or other container is pushed against the back lever to fill.
