The in-door ice maker holds one bins load of ice and depends on a sensor to turn the maker off until the bin volume is reduced. When the bin is properly full, it should b e removable without losing ice off of the top. Check to see that sensor is not some how obstructed. Look at your owners manual for ideas.

The ice cubes would not fall out or fall behind the freezer drawer when the drawer is opened since the Ice Maker and the indoor Ice Bin are not in the Freezer section, there are in the refrigerator section. The design of the Indoor Ice Bin is such that the ice cubes will not fall out when the door is opened. The Ice Maker will stop producing ice when the in-door ice bin is full. If you need more ice, empty the ice bin into the extra ice bin in the freezer...^IFV compartment...^IFV
