No, you do not have to download an app to use this unit. The LG ThinQ app allow for remote use via smartphone and downloaded cycles. For more information about the LG ThinQ app, please see the link, https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-WKGX201HBA.ABLEEUS. ^Daphane
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This unit, both washer and dryer are fully operational without using the LG app, ThinQ. For the washer there are 6 cycles on the control panel, one is Rinse & Spin unless you download a different cycle for that position on the panel. Also on the control panel are adjustments to the water temperature, spin speed, soil level, extra rinses (up to 3), pre-wash, TurboWash and steam. If you choose to use the app there are currently 18 additional cycles there to choose from.
