Ft. 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - Graphite gray, Model # LP1217GSR has to be vented to the outside so you will need to attach the flexible vent hose to the window vent panel so it can be vented to the outside. The unit has to expel all that hot moisture-laden air that it extracts from the room to cool it and the only way to expel that hot moisture-laden air from the room is to vent it to the outside otherwise you will just recirculating all that hot air back into the room if the flexible vent hose is not attached. All air conditioners have to vent to the outside, but since this unit is inside the room, the only way it can vent to the outside is through the window...^IFV
