“Since this unit has a top-side lint filter. What is the MINIMUM top side clearance to remove/reinstall the lint filter? My space is limited with only ~4.5 inches of clearance above the machine, so I'd like to verify that 4.5" is sufficient.”

Nope not for you needs like 6" to remove it, and clean it,and put it back in
