Hi Rich. I am stating only my opinion. Not hard facts. I purchased this disc drive because my new computer does not have an internal disc drive. It was built for gaming. Once I had gotten it and plugged it into a USB port things went okay for a couple of weeks when I was informed that I had to spend another $75 dollars to use it for something other than a paperweight. Even then it wasn't really worth it. To me anyway. I had stripped it down to a basic drive and used other programs I had, like VLC, to watch movies. I hope this helped and good luck.
