• The manual says either powder or liquid can be used. There is an insert in the tray that you have to remove if using powder, but otherwise it should work the same. I have used liquid only in my machine.

• Liquid is petty much the standard and by the nature of the dispenser it is the better option.

The only recommendation is that either one be an HE Detergent. You can use either one...IFV
