• Hello Cathie2024. Thank you for your inquiry on the LG - TurboWash 5.2 Cu. Ft. 12-Cycle Mega-Capacity High-Efficiency Top-Loading Washer - Model # WT5480CW. The cabinet for this unit is listed as PCM which is not a plastic, PCM is a kind of compound metal sheet rolled with color coating, usually about 0.3mm ~ 1.2mm thickness of cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, or aluminum alloy plate and other metal sheets that has wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, oil-resistant, and easy-wash properties. The Drum is a NeveRust™ Stainless Steel Drum, hence the lifetime warranty on it and the Washer has an Inverter Direct Drive Motor which has a 10 year warranty on it. Direct drive motors negate the need for a belt for the motor and have far fewer mechanical parts which is why LG gives such a big warranty on the motor...IFV

• She did not ask about the inner tub, she asked about the outer tub. the outer tub, is most likely plastic. And if I have learned anything from my research, the bearings are pressed into that plastic, and nearly impossible to replace. When the bearings wear out, the entire outer tub will have to be replaced. I promise you, you will opt to buy a new machine before you pay to repair this one. Which is why I am considering a Speed Queen, with all it's flaws, everything from soup to nuts is repairable.

• funny you should ask.,..dont know about gears but tub is ALL stainless EXCEPT for the little aggitator spin wheel thing on the bottom of the tub that moves the clothes...the one thing you would WANT steel.....we didnt realize that when we bought it.....so far so good...no issue....but if that stupid little plastic thing breaks, LG will get an earful....
