Will this unit both record from a DVR and play DVDs on my TV Can I record from my cable box DVR to a DVD with this unit and then can I play the DVDs thru my TV?

Im sure you cant record because it does not have phisical memory, for that you need a flash drive or and external HDD and your receiver must have the feature of recording. I havevnot tried yet to plug mine in a tv to use it like a dvd player but i think i wont work like that, starting it does not have any kind of remote control or buttons to control the playback or any kind of settings, and the tv`s with usb ports use those for playing music, pictures, or even videos in some limited and simple formats. I will try in my tv and update the answer to let you know if it works

I will definitely copy DVD's as I do that frequently, however, I have not tried using it on my TV. My computer searched for the driver but it was a plug and play. Will not work with Blu-Ray though.

I dont believe your cable box has the ability to do this. No standard cable box does.

I also dont know of any smart TV's that allow for a USB device like this to be plugged into a port and used for that purpose.
