• As far as I know yes. Just make sure you reformat it when you plug it in. Disk Utility.

• Yes. I'm running on latest OS X on my MacBook Pro 2016, also with it being plug and play and a big brand name it's highly unlikely that it would cease to be compatible after an update, if that was the case literally millions of usb DVD drives would cease to work, same tech across the board.
