I played an HDR movie on my non-HDR TV and it played with more details than the standard blue ray movie played. I did this as a comparison of how a 4k movie appears vs a standard blue ray.

It has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and like TVs, it will always play any content that it is presented with at it's native resolution of 3940 x 2160. It has a 4K Upscaling functionality, and like TVs, when presented with a lower resolution, like SDTV (480i) or EDTV (480p), it will upscale the content to as close as it can to its native resolution (3840 x 2160) The picture may be grainy because Standard Definition video content does not have enough information when it has to be up scaled to that higher resolution. ^AC
