• yes, you can - and you can rotate the combination in either direction on your knees, pillow or other prop. Handy with movies in bed...and lets you orient the speakers how you want.

• Cover can be folded back, but it is not entirely flat. Maybe a few degrees of elevation if folded back and placed on a flat surface. I do occasionally fold it completely back , but most times I read in a landscape view, so I use the built-in stand feature instead.
