I don’t believe you need the old remote. I did not program the new remote, the geek squad tech did, however I did not see him use the old remote at all while setting up the new remote.

Do not need old remote to program new. All programming is done on their website and then sync to your remote by USB cable.

Nope. You program it with the harmony ap on either PC or Mac.
