you could - just keep in mind that the Logitech adapter needs power, so you're still somewhat tethered.

Yes, headphones do work well with the adapter. However I recommend a set with volume control on them. So you can adjust volume away from your PC devise!

Yes but why? If you want to use headphones why not use the original device output? Anyway, the output will work with headphones, I tried it to verify that it works with my Bose headphones.

Headphones are just small speakers, so yes you can use them. However, speakers usually have built in power amplifiers, headphones are powered off the audio signal alone. Using this device to drive headphones will lower the sound quality, clip, and cut out at higher volumes.
