Yes absolutely, I have a Nikon d500 which way is just over two and a half pounds and I have several telephoto and zoom lenses lenses that way between 3 and 5 lb. And I find the manfroto 290 to be very stable with my equipment. The reason why I bought the Manfroto 290 is I travel a lot. It comes with a fluid head that allows you to pan left and right and up and down, but I also bought the manfroto xpro pan and tilt head. It's very easy to switch between the two heads and both heads work fantastic with the 290. Plus the 290 like all manfroto products are manufactured in Italy, so it's nice to be able to buy something that is not made in China.
