Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.99% Sure that the water stops filling. In order to open the lid after you have started a wash, you must hit the pause/stop button. After a few seconds, the lid will release and all action has stopped. Once you've added or removed what you want, you close the lid and hit start again. The pause button works SO much quicker than the GE Washer I had before. That washer was a disappointing piece of cr@@. So far love my Maytag. Its quiet, doesn't shake and does a great cleaning job.
