Hi Jen, depending on your installation location, but you will generally need about 5" of depth for the venting in addition to the depth of the dryer. For a closet installation, this is very critical. Here is a link to the Installation Instructions for you, see page 5 for the machine dimensions and Location Requirements. Page 6 has the dryer space requirements. Thanks for your interest in Maytag!
