I don’t think you’re required to install it immediately. However, I’d recommend calling McAfee customer service and double check with them. I found them courteous and helpful. Good luck!

Mine expired exactly 12 months 
I purchased it December 2021 and  I had to renew December 2022

Hi Linda, you can purchase a new McAfee antivirus plan today and install it have your existing subscription expires. There is no date that you must install it buy after you purchase. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

You don't have to use it until you want to.  And if the versions are the same, you can actually add the digital subscription to the current one and get it extended.
