• You will need a SIM card to make calls and send text messages. However, without a SIM card you can still use the device to download apps or browse the web when connected to a WIFI network.

• Yes, this phone requires a SIM card to text and make phone calls. The only thing this phone can do without the SIM card is use Wi-Fi and call 911.

• Yes. In order to have phone service you must buy a SIM card from a phone provider. Otherwise you can only make 911 calls or just use it on WiFi. With this phone you can choose any provider in the US.
