No, a physical sim card is not required. I took it to Verizon, and they set that up for me.

The Moto G Power 5G 2024 unlocked phone supports both a physical Nano SIM and eSIM, so a physical SIM is not always required for the phone to function. However, eSIM availability depends on your carrier’s support, so we recommend checking with your service provider to confirm whether they can activate the device digitally or if a physical SIM card will be needed. -Mitch
