It didn't on mine. The store employee had to do it for me, as well as transferring my text messages over.

If your contacts are stored on your SIM, they may. The best way to transfer is to use the Android settings transfer utility. If your contacts are linked to your Google account, they will automatically transfer if you use your same Google account on your new phone. My contacts, emails, and SMS messages all moved over automatically.

If your old phone is not Android, it may be a little more complicated.

Yes. Verizon store was able to transfer but you will need to add apps.
