Sort of. There will be a mod available that will allow this phone to use the 5g network when available. Putting that technology into the phone would make it too big and bulky.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Motorola has said that the 5G Mod will *at first* only work with the Z3 (NOT the Z3 Play), but that it will try to roll out backward compatibility for it by the end of 2019. The 5G mod is also going to be a Verizon exclusive, so it will likely only work on the Verizon network at first. I've also read conflicting reports on whether or not it will work with unlocked phones versus just Verizon-sold phones, so if you are on Verizon and this is your top concern, you might want to go with the Verizon Moto Z3 instead!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Motorola MOTO Z3 Play has several "Mods" available that clip onto the phone and allow you to do additional things with the phone, camera, etc. The battery "mod" that comes with the phone is a good example; it clips onto the back of the phone, charges simultaneously as the phone recharges and provides increased talk time, etc. My Best Buy rep told me there either is or will be a 5G "Mod" that will allow the phone to work on 5G networks. However, at this point he did not know what the cost of that "Mod" will be and he also did not know whether using such an attachment on this phone will allow one to get as much speed from the 5G network as one will get from phones subsequently designed specifically for 5G. Do some online research if you can.
