WAYYYY OVERKILL. Motorola MT7711 would be a decent choice for a "combo" device. Wireless is subject to your own surroundings and dwelling on how far the signal will go.

Yes, this modem is way too much for 300mbp of speed. Would be like putting a Corvette on a 55-mph speed limit.

Speed limits are for Road conditions, not cars!
As for being an overkill, you need to check on other security and allied features. That would allow you to make a more rational decision
