You still need a modem. I have Spectrum phone and internet but my box is just a modem and not a router. I replaced my old router with Google Nest Mesh system.

You can keep your current modem/router combo, and connect Nest Wifi router to the modem's WAN port. We recommend disabling the Wi-Fi functionality of your combo as the combo's router and Nest Wifi router would both broadcast their own private networks. Such a case will cause a Double NAT that can be an issue with playing online games, port-forwarding, and connected devices.
