QuestionWith the new Nest WIFI can the remote units function as an access point, that is be able to plug in an Ethernet cable. If not how can I add a non-wifi device at a remote room. Thanks Chuck
- Answer No — the points no longer have an Ethernet option like the legacy product had.
QuestionDoes this new Google Nest Wifi work with the older Google Wifi? For example can I connect the two so my old Google Wifi acts as the wifi extender?
- Answer Yes, it can. I found myself in the same situation but felt that leaving the old Google Wi-Fi as the main router was defeating one of the greatest benefits the new Nest Wi-Fi solution offers: much better bandwidth if the Nest Wi-Fi Router is used as the main router. To do this, I Reset the old Google Wi-Fi using an option in the old Google Wi-Fi app - which you have to do if you plan on adding the old units into this new environment. I then added the Nest Wi-Fi Router in as my main router using Google Home and named the network exactly the same as my old network - to include the same password. By calling this new network the same as the old and by using the same password, all your devices will immediately connect to the new network - albeit, with new IP addresses. I then set up the Nest Wi-FI Point using Google Home, followed by adding two of the old Google Wi-Fi units. In doing this, I now have the Nest Router as my high-performance router (much faster than the old one), and a total of 4 devices, i.e. Nest Router, Nest Point, and two of the three Google Wi-Fi units. I didn't need the third so I'm keeping it aside in case one breaks. Still, you can add the new Nest devices into your old network configuration if you want but will miss out on the benefits the new Nest offers.
QuestionWill this work with my AT&T U-verse NVG599 gateway?
- Answer Yes, Google Nest WiFi can work with your system. But NVG599 is a modem/router combo and you would need to put it in bridge mode or disable its Wi-Fi functionality in order to set up Nest WiFi as your primary router and create a mesh Wi-Fi system throughout your home.
QuestionHow does it work? We have Spectrum WiFi now and want to switch to Google Nest. Is it as simple as purchasing the 2pack plugging it in and we have WiFi?? Or do we need something more?
- Answer Yes and no. If your modem is easily accessible, has an empty port AND a close by electrical outlet and there is an outlet where you want to locate the hub - you could be up and running in 10 - 15 minutes. It took me about 30 minutes as I needed a ladder, had reroute a long extension cord to reach an almost inaccessible outlet for the main orb, and find an asthetically suitable location with an outlet for the second. Our than that it is super easy. Plug in the network cable and power, load an app on your phone, name the new network and password, answer some simple questions, push a button and wait a few minutes and you're up and running. Our house is over 3300 square feet, two stories and the property is long. We now have very strong wifi throughout the house and property. Works very well for us.
QuestionI have a Netgear wifi router that connected to modem, so if i connect this "google - Nest wifi router with 2 points" to Netgear wifi router but not directly to modem, Will this work ?
- Answer I would get rid of the Netgear router and just use the mesh system. I would hook the modem up to the nest Wifi router then place the points appropriately throughout the house.
Questiondoes this cover a 2 story 5000 sq home?
- Answer Yes, I have over 5000 sq ft, 3 level home. The router is located on the upper third level floor, one point on the first and second level ; The 1st level floor is 12 ft cement block walls and wifi is great on all three levels.
QuestionCan the Google assistant be disabled? We have an entire Alexa system in place, we really don't need two systems listening to us!!
- Answer yes su can. I put mine in silence because i have three Alexa in home.
QuestionDoes the AC2200 router have a second ethernet port for hardwiring a pc or ethernet switch?
- Answer The router has a single ethernet port for hardwiring. It has two ports, one port is required for connection to a cable modem. Additional ports can be added to the system by adding a second router as a node. Please note that the speed is limited on the ethernet ports. I could not get more than 120-130 mbs on a hard wired connection using 1 gb Xfinity service. Apparently a known problem.....check out the user forums on this router.
Questioni have Google fiber now. Will I keep using my Google router with the new Nest mesh system?
- Answer Yes you can. This will be plugged into one of the ports. Essentially you will have 2 wi fi networks. In our house we have our original google fiber wi fi and with this I created a separate wi fi. I run all the smart devices (plugs, lights, thermostat, etc) off the original google wi fi and the entertainment stuff is run off the new nest wi fi.
QuestionHow are people getting fast speeds? I pay for 1gig connection, router shows 800Mb+ on input, but wifi speeds are ranging from 50Mb-150Mb. I saw 300Mb for one speed test, the rest are all significantly lower. Why is my Nest so slow?
- Answer The Nest WiFi router seems to be limited to 100-150 mbs across the ethernet ports. I could not get more than 270 mbs across the WiFi mesh on a four node system. I ran into the same issue. Check out the user forums. A lot of customers re reporting the same issues. Appears to be a design limitation with the system. My solution was to return the Nest WiFi system and replace with a Linksys Velop system. I am now getting 980+ mbs on wired connections and up to 500 mbs on WiFi connections.
QuestionIf I have at&t fiber wifi internet can I use this google wifi router/mesh with it. So it will make my wifi faster and extend better. I'm so confused. I need to know what I can use. Also it says up to 200 connected devices. Is this possible.
- Answer I have at&t fiber and use this with my internet all the time. You just have to turn off the wifi from the modem/router combo they give you and then plug the nest wifi router into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the modem/router. It works great even through multiple walls. 200 devices is possible so long as they are all connected wirelessly. It would just strain the network speed for each device to a crawl. Hope this helps
QuestionCan I have the AC1200 work with the AC2200?
- Answer Yes, AC2200 is Nest WiFi router while the AC1200 is Nest WiFi point. You can connect them to each other wirelessly to create a mesh network.
QuestionI currently have an arris surfboard sbg6700-ac. Will I need to purchase a separate modem to use this? Im not sure what all I need to purchase exactly to get this up and running as quick as possible. I have an in home office too.
- Answer Arris Surfboard SBG6700-AC is a modem/router combo. You won't need to purchase a separate modem for Nest Wifi system to work with it. But, when you connect Nest Wifi router to your modem/router combo, you will technically have two routers, each broadcasting its own private Wi-Fi network. This situation is called a Double NAT and may lead to some problems depending on your use of Wi-Fi. You can either put your modem/router combo in Bridge mode or disable the Wi-Fi functionality of your combo to avoid Double NAT. QuestionI have a great signal in my main room where my Cable Modem is located. But, in other parts of the home I have weak signals. Ho many do I need, and are they wired in, or wireless? I would like one in my garage, backyard, and far end of the home. Help!
- Answer The answer to that all depends on the size of you home, but a rough estimate IMO would be one for every 1800 feet. If you look at their ecomendations it 1 for up to 2200 2 for up to 3700 and 3 for up to 5400. Signal is of course blocked by different materials in the house so that can change things. I have 3000 sqft, but it is single level and an open floor plan, so 2 work great for me. Also, the access points are wireless mesh, you just need power and they have Google assistant as well.

- Answer Google Nest WiFi doesn't have a coaxial port to support coaxial cable, but you can connect a MoCA adapter to create the connection.
QuestionWe currently have CenturyLink wifi. Can you use Google's nest system with CenturyLink?
- Answer Nest Wifi isn't compatible with 3rd party routers like your Centurylink modem/router combo to form a Wi-Fi mesh network. You can only combine Nest Wifi and Google Wifi to create a Wi-Fi mesh. A good workaround is to set up your CenturyLink combo in bridge mode and disable its Wi-Fi functionality. You can then connect Nest Wifi Router to your combo using an Ethernet cable and connect your Nest Wifi Points to it.
QuestionCan you connect the Google mesh system to an existing COX wi-fi modem that has an Ethernet cable connection at the back of the modem? Hence, you would have the COX Cable system wi-fi modem and the Google Mesh system running side by side.
- Answer Yes, Nest Wifi router can work with your Cox Wi-Fi modem. You can set it up by hardwiring it to the WAN port of your modem as your primary router. If you have a modem/router combo, then we recommend disabling the combo's Wi-Fi functionality by putting it in Bridge mode to avoid a Double NAT which may cause connectivity issues. QuestionWill Google Nest Wifi AC2200 Mesh System Router work with an Optimum modem? If yes, how do I install?
- Answer Yes, When you plug the Nest into the modem it will pick up the Internet settings automatically. The app will guide you through installation. It was very simple and the range on these devices are awesome.
