Yes - all WiFi range extenders that are not "Mesh" range extenders will require that you create at least one new SSID. But, it can be very close to your current (primary) WiFi SSID. For example, if your WiFi SSID is "ALPHA", this range extender SSID could be something like "ALPHA_EXT" and the password can be the exact same password as your primary SSID. So, when you go back and forth with your phone in the house, you may switch seamlessly back and forth between "ALPHA" and "ALPHA_EXT". There should be no issues with interference between the two.
