“My router/wi fi box is from Frontier telephone company in Alabama where I live. It goes bad about every 4 months, then it takes about 2 weeks for them to come out and change it. Please help me find another way to get wi fi.”

Might be time to change providers. But, if you are considering in owning your own modem, try contacting them to get a compatibility list then find a modem off of that. Usually, your own modem would be a better deal in the long run and give you better performance. If you have a quality modem and still get poor service later, then, it's probably your ISP that has the problem, not the hardware.
