• No, you have to call Netgear to activate the unit after it is plugged into the cable, and you have to be connected to it with an eithernet cable also. then call your cable co. and give them the MAC address.

• Yes, it is VERY easy setup. However, make sure this exact device is approved by your cable company. For our Xfinity/Comcast service it was plug-n-play. Very impressed by the quality of this modem/router. Owned it 20+ months now and have only had to turn it on-off a couple of times.
