“How many devices (phones, computers, TV's, smart switches, Alexa devices etc) will this support? I am close to 24 now and would like to expand with a thermostat & more plugs and lights but want to know if this router is stout enough to expand with.”

I would say yes on the condition you put your large data users on the 5GHz wireless and the low bandwidth items plugs, thermostat, etc. on the 2.4Ghz wireless network. That will help avoid data packet collision overload
