It did help my internet speed in the areas of the house that had spotty connection before.

If you tested it before the extender and then again after the extender you might see speed increases because of my previous mention, but essentially you're trying to eliminate areas of your house that are dead zones because of range and signal strength that falls as the signal is required to pass through objects and range.
