From my understanding, I can use this product to get internet instead of using Wi-Fi in my home? Would I only need this product or do I need cables as well to hook up to my computer to get internet from these boxes? null

The question's a little vague. 
You need internet service (AT&T, Spectrum, etc.) coming into your home with a modem, first. This can't be used in lieu of a modem to provide service. 

Once that's done, this gets hooked up like so: Modem ---cable--->adapter (plugged into wall.) -----electrical lines in home ----> Other adapter ----cable---- PC. (or switch, or TV. It has two plugs on the bottom.) So yes, you do need a cable - these are not wifi extenders.

It comes with some short Lan cables. If you need a longer one you have to get it yourself

This product comes with two short ethernet cables so it really depends how far your computer is from the power outlet. The cables might be 4 feet long.
